Most council houses were built after the second World War, the majority were built of traditional materials brick and tile, however some 25% were built out of prefabricated materials including concrete with steel reinforcement.

If you have a house built as an Airey/Reema/Stent/Wates/Unity/Woolaway/Cornish MK2 and Cornish Unit (1/2 Tile and concrete slabs) then these properties were produced in a factory and shipped to site for completion, they were intended to last for 10 years but most are still there today, most have internal room sizes that are well in excess of modern day properties and in addition have the benefit of large gardens.

There are some 1.25 million prefabricated properties in the UK today, the majority are considered to be un mortgageable in their current condition and therefore in need of repair and refurbishment.

Un repaired PRC homes or non standard construction homes are labelled as defective by High Street Lenders and Building Societies and are un mortgageable unless repaired.
